1 cup milk

4 egg whites

Oven: 350 degrees (F)

Pans: 13×9 or 2 layer pans

Measure dry ingredients and blend together with shortening, milk and vanilla. 30 seconds on low then 2 minutes on high. Add egg whites and beat for another 2 minutes. Pour into pan(s). Bake oblong for 35-40 minutes; layers for 30-35 minutes. Cool, then frost and decorate as desired.


Simple White 50th Birthday Cake Recipe

This recipe is for a plain white cake that you can use as a foundation for other flavors of fillings, frostings, and decorations to make your own unique creation.

(To make it truly white, remove the yolks and add a third egg.)

This is a large single layer that you may decide to cut in two halves, depending on your plans.

Ingredients

– 1 c plain white sugar
– 1/2 c butter
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
– 2 eggs
– 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
– 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
– 1/2 c milk

Directions

Preheat to 350 degrees. Grease and flour layer cake pan, or for cupcakes, prepare liners.

Cream together the sugar and butter, then add the eggs one at a time, beating after each, and finally stir in vanilla.

Add baking powder, flour to the wet mixture and blend well. Lastly stir in milk and continue to blend until smooth. Pour into the pan.

Bake for 30 to 40 minutes. For cupcakes, 20 to 25 minutes. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch.
